Sarah Katsoulis captures Women’s 50m breaststroke gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Sarah Katsoulis of Nunawading captured gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke on day two of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Thursday, September 13.
The 28-year-old Katsoulis served notice of her talent in the shortest breaststroke discipline, where she remained dominant over her opponents and proved her mettle for gold medal of the event.
With her commendable efforts, she faced no trouble in securing her top qualification spot as she made her way to the finishing wall for the crown by submitting a time of 30.68 seconds.
The champion was chased by Lorna Tonks of Redcliffe League, who remained 0.22 seconds slower and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by reporting a time of 30.90 seconds.
Tonks was trailed by Samantha Marshall of Melbourne VIC, who suffered a deficit of half stroke from her preceding swimmer and secured bronze medal of the discipline by touching the wall with a timing of 31.15 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Olivia Halicek of University NSW, who remained 0.11 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 31.26 seconds.
Following that, the audience experienced ruthless efforts of Jessica Hansen of MLC Aquatic, VIC, and Libby Forbes of Nunawading, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck battle for fifth position.
Both swimmers remained 0.04 seconds slower from overwhelming their former finisher and ended their race in a joint finish for fifth position by clocking a time of 31.30 seconds.
The duo was trailed by Sally Foster of Central Aquatic, who remained 0.12 seconds behind and remained prominent for seventh position by ending her race in a time of 31.42 seconds.
Subsequently, Foster enjoyed an advantage of 0.02 seconds over Amelia Dahlitz of Norwood, SA, who tried hard to overpower her former finisher but failed to do so. Dahlitz remained just a touch slower from Foster and hit the wall with a timing of 31.44 seconds.
Furthermore, Katsoulis received massive appreciation from the crowd for her scintillating efforts and expressed contentment over her victory after the event.
