Sarah Katsoulis conquers Women 200m breaststroke heats – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Sarah Katsoulis of Nunawading conquered the preliminary rounds of Women’s 200m breaststroke on day five of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Monday, March 19.
The top two finishers of every event at the Australian Championship will qualify for their national squad to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 27-year-old Katsoulis faced strong battle from Leisel Jones in the distant breaststroke swim but with her persistent and gruelling efforts, she managed to out-touch her on the finishing wall for first position.
Katsoulis submitted a time of 2 minutes and 29.53 seconds for the top qualification spot of the event. She stayed 0.25 seconds ahead of 26-year-old Jones, who emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 29.78 seconds for second position.
With her scintillating effort, Jones remained 0.25 seconds ahead of Taylor McKeown of Australian Crawl, who snared third qualification spot of the event by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 30.03 seconds.
The 16-year-old McKeown was chased by Karlene Pircher of Melbourne, who was 0.80 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 30.83 seconds for fourth position.
In the meantime, Jayden Hadler of SOPAC dictated terms to his rivals in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM). The 18-year-old Hadler upset his competitors by occupying the top qualification spot of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.80 seconds.
His phenomenal struggle was chased by Kenneth To of Trinity Grammar, who remained 0.28 seconds slower and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 02.08 seconds.
The third finest spot of the discipline was obtained by Travis Nederpelt of City of Perth, who was 0.29 seconds slower from his former finisher and settled on the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 02.37 seconds. Nederpelt remained 0.13
seconds ahead of Daniel Tranter of SOPAC, who clocked 2 minutes and 02.50 seconds.
Furthermore, the contestants will race against each other in their next rounds whereas the championship will conclude on March 22 after the finalisation of Australian team.
