Sarah Katsoulis overcomes Women’s 50m breaststroke prelims – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Sarah Katsoulis of Nunawading overcame the preliminary rounds of Women’s 50m breaststroke on day one of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Wednesday, September 12.
The 28-year-old Katsoulis remained in a comfortable lead over her strongest challenger throughout the discipline. With her persistent efforts, she remained prominent for the top qualification spot of the race and faced no trouble in overpowering her toughest
contender over the finishing end.
She continued her exhausting efforts throughout the shortest breaststroke event and touched the wall for fastest qualification spot with a timing of 30.85 seconds.
Her scintillating effort remained 0.18 seconds ahead of Lorna Tonks of Redcliffe League, who proved her dominance for second best spot in the final round as she touched the wall with an effort of 31.03 seconds.
Tonks was followed by Sally Foster of Central Aquatic, who remained 0.38 seconds slower from her and touched the wall with a timing of 31.41 seconds for third position.
Fourth best qualifying position of the discipline was obtained by Amelia Dahlitz of Norwood, SA, who remained only 0.05 seconds slower from her and ended her race in fifth best place by submitting a time of 31.46 seconds.
Dahlitz was chased by Olivia Halicek of University NSW, who suffered a loss of just 0.04 seconds from her former finisher and settled on the finishing blockade as fifth best finisher with a timing of 31.50 seconds.
Halicek was chased by Jessica Hansen of MLC Aquatic, VIC, who stayed just an inch slower from overpowering her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 31.68 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh best spot of the event was secured by Samantha Marshall of Melbourne VIC, who stayed 0.13 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 31.81 seconds.
Marshall was chased by Libby Forbes of Nunawading, who remained 0.14 seconds behind and completed her swim in eighth best place by submitting a time of 31.95 seconds.
Katsoulis received huge appreciation from the crowd for her marvellous effort and was hopeful of doing the same in playoff.
