Sarah Louise Rung grabs Women’s 200m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Sarah Louise Rung of Norway grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 200m freestyle in S5 category on day three of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 1.
The Norwegian swimmer showed no mercy to her opponents in the 200m discipline and made her way to the finishing wall for the title of the event.
With her inevitably strong efforts, she enjoyed a lead of two body lengths over her closest competitor and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 49.74 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Teresa Perales of Spain, who was 2.05 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end as second best finisher by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 51.79 seconds.
Perales was traced by Inbal Pezaro of Israel, who was almost five seconds behind and occupied bronze medal of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 56.11 seconds.
Pezaro was chased by Anita Fatis of France, who stayed nearly seven seconds slower from securing any spot on the podium and finished fourth in the event with an effort of 3 minutes and 03.81 seconds.
Similarly, Fatis enjoyed a benefit of nearly 12 seconds over Alyssa Gialamas of USA, who hit the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 15.66 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was secured by Joana Maria Silva of Brazil, who remained two body lengths behind and transpired on the finishing blockade with a timing of 3 minutes and 17.43 seconds.
Silva remained in a lead of almost five seconds over Lisette Teunissen of Netherlands, who secured seventh best spot of the race by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 22.67 seconds.
Last position of the discipline was obtained by Reka Kezdi of Hungary, who failed to smother any of her challengers and completed her race in eighth best place by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 45.66 seconds.
Rung was very pleased with her performance in the freestyle event and received accolade for her notable form after the event.
