Sarah Palin's Family in the Spotlight, Why not O'Bama's family?

I do not hear about Michelle O'Bama abandoning her kids to campaign for Barrack. I do not hear O'Bama's brother and his poverty in play in the news cycles. I do not hear much about Biden's son and possible financial corruptions.

O'Bama announced months ago how he would have handled one of his daughters being pregnant. Why is Sarah's daughter on all the news cycles? Why not a story on who the nanny is for the O'Bama family?

Neither family should have their private life made public.

Making Obama's family life public will not undo the damage caused by the American public's thirst for gossip.  Two wrongs don't make a right.

Because the news likes to influence decisions, and since they don't like President Bush they don't want a republican in office. Therefore they report on all the negatives there are for McCain and his running mate, and not a whole lot of negatives on Obama and his running mate.

Because her freaking daughter is pregnant! if she cant control her kids, then how i will she control a country if mcain were to die? (which is highly likely btw considering his age and medical history) Im not saying obama not helping his bro is good, or michelle obama leaving the kids with a nannie is good either, but a pregnant teen is worse than all of that, esp. considering no one really know's who sarah palin is before this (except of course for the people of alaska.) it just reflects her ability to take charge. but of course this is only my opinion.

Her family is all over the news, and it truely effects her family. I mean, no offense, but how often was she and her husband home to not know her daughter was having s*x and getting pregnant? Her daughter has/had mono and missed school for over 5+ months, plus she's been in a minor car accident and has gotten three trafic tickets recently. She can barely manage her own household, why would we want her to 'almost' run the US?

On the bright side, I guess it shows that Sarah pays more attention to other things, and doesn't put her family first, like O'Bama seems to be doing. I guess if people can see this, then she might get more votes for being more into the government than her family.

well it might have a little something to do with the fact that palins daughter is knocked up at the age of 17. obamas kids are not. if they were then yeah, the spotlight would be on them. it is also because mccain just randomly selected her from this podunk little town in alaska and everyone is kind of in shock.and about michelle leaving her kids, palin left her down syndrome baby like days after it was born.

moms usually arent even working when they have kids that young much traveling around the country

Palin's family is in the news because she's a woman.  

It's a clear example of the double standard we hold in this country.  We never question a man's ability to lead just because he has family obligations.  Why should we question a woman's?   But there you have it.

Because for one thing, Obama and his wife Michelle are both really responsible people who have the sense to teach their daughters how to protect themselves when they are older, and who have the sense as well to NOT ALLOW their daughters to date, much less have s*x, until they are out of high school and established on their own in jobs. Palin, on the other hand, is a good example of a person who is so caught up in her own life that she could care less what her kids are doing- and is that really the kind of person we want running this country in the event McCain dies in office, which he might? Bristol Palin isn't even out of high school yet, and her mom is letting her throw her life away because of a stupid teenage mistake. That's HARDLY the kind of person we need as a commander in chief, especially when one takes into account Palin's lack of experience in foreign policy and affairs. Do you realize she's never traveled outside the US? She's never even been to Canada, and Alaska shares a BORDER with that country !! McCain's choice of her as his running mate is going to prove to be his undoing, I think. What he did was STUPID, plain and simple, and there is no getting around that. The Republican party has been bashing teenagers who get pregnant and their irresponsible parents for years, but offering little in the way of solutions to help deal with the problem, other than the tired old " preaching abstinence" which doesn't work. Now that they have to deal with one of their own in such a public way, they are scrambling to try to put a good face on this- and the more they do this, the more they look like the hypocrites they truly are.

As for Palin herself, I don't consider what she's done to be noble or commendable- I think it's a tragedy. This is a girl who is about to throw her life away because of a few minutes of irresponsible behavior- and who's to say that the guy who fathered this kid isn't going to dump her at the first chance he gets? That's what most teen fathers generally do, you know, because they don't want the responsibility of being a daddy. Her mom is no better than she is- and in fact, the Governor is actually being forced to face up to some harsh realities here. Teen pregnancy still carries a big stigma along with it- and while that stigma has lessened somewhat, it is by no means gone. I understand that her newborn son has Down Syndrome as well- and this is a major developmental disability which will require a LIFETIME of care in order to be dealt with. Somehow, given his mom's political interests, I doubt he's going to have much of a quality of life, especially once he gets old enough to be attending school. So you have one tragedy piled on top of another- and then there's this business about Palin's oldest son, who is scheduled to deploy to Iraq in a week or so. Let's hope for his mom's sake that he doesn't DIE over there- because that would all but shoot the Republican party in the face, wouldn't it?

This is just a sad situation for all concerned. McCain needed to make a better choice- but he decided to pay more attention to his own selfish interests than to the overall welfare of this country. It's just pathetic.

I agree...but to be honest I think peoples family's are out. They shouldn't be talking about them at all. Everyone had that one family memeber that they don't "claim" or had made a mistake that they didn't have anything to do with.

Its sad that they are pushing so much on Sarah Palin's daughter for being pregnant. I think back I could have been pregnant at 17. So could so many other people. Accidents happen. I respect her alot for keeping her child and working threw it. And I'm glad she is staying in Alaska when the baby is born. Its good shes staying with the father of the baby. I also don't think it should matter if they are getting married or not. That's an added stress they don't need.

I wouldn't vote for him...but I think its a good idea of O'Bama to say leave Sarah's daughter out of it. Hes a father of 2 daugthers he could be in her shoes in the next 5-10 years.

I don't know. I think it is sad how they are attacking her family. Who cares if her daughter is pregnant. Do we check to make sure all the presidents children are virgins? Or do we only care if they accidentally get pregnant? Big deal, life happens, they are dealing with it appropriately (keeping the baby) lets move on.

Palin's daughter is in the news because it demonstrates what kind of decision-maker McCain will be.  He had one criteria: someone who could take over the Presidency on day one.  Of all the otherwise qualified Republicans, he chose Palin.  He met with her once, and she was supposedly vetted.  Her daughter is in the news because even though he said they knew about the pregnancy, they clearly weren't prepared to handle it publicly.  Her daughter is in the news because she represents the party of abstinence education vs. teaching proper birth control.  Her daughter is in the news because for years, Republicans have been slamming teen-pregnancy, and now that it involves one of their own high-profile people they are embracing it as a blessing, miracle of life, etc.  The irony and hypocrisy is the news, not the teen girl who is pregnant.

Okay, to some McCain supporters this may sound bias, since I'm for Obama, but basically some news reporters are calling it hypocrisy. Because Sarah Palin is Christian, and so she's SUPPOSED to (not saying that this is true) teach her children not to have s*x until marriage. And then on the other hand, there's Sen. Palin saying that her daughter has her unconditional love and support, which makes sense to me, but to some parents it sounds like: "oh yeah, I dont give the c**p that you're just 17, go ahead, have s*x, get pregnant, I still love you more than anything, and you have all of my support." So...yeah.
