Sarah Poewe occupies Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day three – European LC Championships
Sarah Poewe of Germany occupied gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on third day of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Wednesday, May 23.
Poewe remained dominant over her competitors from the start of the event and lived up to the expectations of her supporters by snaring gold medal of the discipline.
With her stupendous efforts, she faced no trouble in seizing top position of the double lap event as she tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 07.33 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jennie Johansson of Sweden, who stayed 0.52 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing wall for silver medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 07.85 seconds.
Similarly, the second position holder was followed by Marina Garcia Urzainqui of Spain, who was just 0.06 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and stood on the victory stand for bronze medal with an effort of 1 minute and 07.91 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Caroline Ruhnau of Germany, who was 0.04 seconds apart and settled on the finishing wall for fourth position by reporting a time of 1 minute and 07.95 seconds.
Moments later, the audience experienced phenomenal struggle of Sarah Sjoestroem in the Women’s 100m freestyle playoff. Sjoestroem showered her expertise in the double lap freestyle event and reached the finishing end for first position.
Her stupendous pace remained considerably faster from her following rival as she hit the wall with an effort of 53.61 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 0.54 seconds faster from the world record holder, Britta Steffen of Germany, who secured second position of the event with the timing of 54.15 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Steffen’s teammate, Daniela Schreiber, who stayed almost two strokes apart and posted a time of 54.41 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Alice Mizzau of Italy, who ended her swim in fourth best place by clocking a time of 55.03 seconds.
In addition, the position holders received awards and accolades for their splendid performances at the prize ceremony of the event.
