Sarah Sjoestroem captures Women’s 50m butterfly gold: Day two – European LC Championships
Sarah Sjoestroem of Sweden captured gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly on day two of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Tuesday, May 22.
The Swedish star met expectations of her supporters by clinching gold medal of the single lap butterfly event. She demonstrated her stupendous efforts in 50m discipline and ensured her place on the top of the podium for gold medal.
Sjoestroem remained nearly two strokes ahead of her following challenger, Triin Aljand of Estonia, as she sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by clocking a time of 25.64 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 0.28 seconds faster from Aljand, who made her way to the finishing end as second best swimmer by producing a time of 25.92 seconds.
Aljand was chased by Ingvild Snildal of Norway, who remained 0.24 seconds apart and settled on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by submitting a time of 26.16 seconds.
Fourth position of the 50m event was obtained by Anna Dowgiert of Poland, who suffered a deficit of 0.22 seconds from the bronze medallist and reported a time of 26.38 seconds.
Similarly, Dowgiert was chased by Silvia Di Pietro of Italy, who remained 0.06 seconds slower from improving her position and pocketed a time of 26.44 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth best spot of the event was secured by Kristel Vourna of Greece, who stayed only one stroke apart and emerged on the finishing wall with an effort of 26.52 seconds.
Vourna was trailed by Ilaria Bianchi of Italy, who was just a touch slower from her foregoing finisher and reported a time of 26.55 seconds for seventh position.
The Italian swimmer faced strong contest from Amit Ivri of Israel, who tried hard to improve her position, but Bianchi succeeded in outperforming her on the finishing blockade.
Ivri stayed 0.22 seconds apart and clocked a time of 26.77 seconds for eighth position of the discipline.
Furthermore, the position holders received awards and accolades for their splendid efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship while the competition will expire on May 27.
