Sarah Sjostrom wins Women’s 50m freestyle title: 2011 Swedish Short Course Nationals
Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden claimed her second gold title during the penultimate day of the 2011 Swedish Short Course Nationals, in Stockholm, Sweden, on Sunday, November 27.
Sjostrom was up against Michelle Coleman and Magdalena Kuras in the Women’s 50m freestyle final heat. More importantly, Sarah knocked out her challengers in the pool by thrashing the finishing divider in a winning time of 24.36 seconds to claim the gold
medal on the podium.
Her effort fell short of her previous best meet time of 24.26 seconds, set back in October. Earlier, Sjostrom won two gold medals in 100m butterfly meets during the 2008 and 2010 European Championship editions, in Eindhoven and Budapest, respectively. Besides,
she performed well in all other important meets of swimming.
In the meantime, Michelle Coleman also rose to the expectations of her followers in the respective race and produced appealing turns against her rivals in the puddle by claiming the finishing barricade in a matchless blot of 24.76 seconds. The swim moved
her to 21st place in the current ranking of world swimming. On the other hand, Magdalena Kuras took home the bronze medal in the respective splash by thumping the finishing barrier in a time of 24.90 seconds.
Claire Vilshed earned fourth position by banging the finishing fence in a time of 24.92 seconds, while the fifth place honour went to Nathalie Lindborg in a mark of 25.13 seconds.  In addition, Henriette Brekke captured sixth position in the respective splash
by striking the finishing fence in a time of 25.22 seconds. Meanwhile, the seventh spot went to Emma Svensson and Josefin Lindkvist in a matching time of 25.45 seconds.
Additionally, Anna Rosén and Erika Carlén claimed ninth and tenth positions by striking the finishing divider in a time of 25.52 and 25.74 seconds, respectively. As a result of her all-round performance, Sarah Sjostrom was given the gold medal along with
cash prizes after the session’s conclusion.
The 2011 Swedish Short Course Nationals is offering a great opportunity to all young and senior level athletes of Sweden to prepare themselves for their futuristic meets.
