Saratoga Dew draws six New York bred fillies to run a distance of 1 1/8 miles on the Saratoga dirt
The $75,000 Saratoga Dew has reeled in 6 New York bred fillies and mares to run over a distance of 1 1/8 miles on the Saratoga dirt racecourse on 29 August, 2011.
Among the prominent entrants is the 4-year-old Patrick Kelly trained filly, Spa City Princess, and the Nicholas Zito trained 5-year-old mare, Banker’s Buy.
These two older females will be carrying a high weight of 124 pounds for the 1 1/8 mile test.
The daughter of Roaring Fever out of Lady Di Huntley by Shuailaan, Spa City Princess, has two wins this season out of seven starts.
She has placed in third three times, fifth in an allowance claimer earlier this year at Aqueduct on 16 March, 2011.
Adam Madkour owned Spa City Princess is coming off a 7th place finish in the Irish Linnet. The race is run over a distance of 1 mile on the Saratoga grass. Spa City Princess had not run on turf since 27 May, 2010 at Belmont Park, where she rolled
in fifth.
Under Jorge Chavez, the filly weakened and couldn’t match up the pace with front runners Chorus Music, Gitchee Goomie and Frivolous Buck, who went on to finish the race in the same order and completed a mile in 1 minute and 35.87 seconds.
Her last win was also at a distance of 1 mile in the Chase the Dream, but it was on dirt at Aqueduct under jockey Ramon Dominguez. On 13 April, 2011, Spa City Princess bagged her second win of the season with the winning time of 1 minute and 37.65 seconds.
Another possible contender for the Saratoga Dew is the 5-year-old mare Banker’s Buy, who hasn’t had anything to cheer for until her last race at Belmont Park, where Banker’s Buys stormed past her opponents to win the Miss South Shore.
It was her first win of the season, to be precise her last win came more or less a year back in July 2010.
Go Unbridled, Mineralogist, D’ Oratory and Beautiful Risk will fill up a field of six New York bred fillies.
