Question:

Sarcoids in Horses....Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

I have an aged quarter horse mare who developed them all over her. The vet quarterised them and most dissappeared. The ones that didn't are on her jaw. They bleed very easily when bumped and due to their location she bumps them frequently. Does anyone have any suggestions for treatments? I live in rural South Australia

  1. The horse I ride has sarcoids also, they are REALLY hard to get rid of completely, but if you are persistant with treatment they can get a little better.

Our vet injected some kind of virus into a couple of them and now they are starting to get reabsorbed. We have also tried herbal remedies, and had a couple sergically removed.

  2. I had a mare with sarcoids and the vet sugicaly removed the ones by her eye but the ones on her sides and such we got a cream that burns them off maybe ask if that is a possabillity ?

  3. I lived in rural SA too (now in Qld), I'm sorry for your poor horse, I know how heartbreaking it is :(

I believe animals benefit greatly from alternate therapies & herbs & have found the following equine naturopaths very helpful, I hope they can help you & your horse.

I have heard good things about Robert McDowell in helping to treat sarcoids, more info here  - http://www.herbal-treatments.com/horse_c...

I've also had alot of experience with Victoria Ferguson - info here - http://www.herbalhorse.com/.

Wish I could do more, good luck to you both xoxo

  5. i bought my horse with 2.  one in his ear and one on his underside of the neck.  they were the size of a pencil erasure.  the vet told me NOT to burn them off as they would prbably spread throughtout his body.  over the course of the 16 i have had him they grew to the size of a walnut in his ear, and the size of an apple on his neck.  Unbekownst to me the owner of the barn i moved him to 2 years ago supplemented his feed with "Source" micro nutirents.  a year ago whe spring came around, and he shed all his winter hair, we noticed they were almost gone.  by summer, they were completely gone.  The vet has never seen anything like it.  i had actually had the horse inspected 2 falls ago, becasue i was afraid the growth on his neck was growing inward and compromising his breathing.  he is 21 now, and they still have not come back....knock on wood!  in a nutshell ...one year of souce vitamins, and a completely happy and stressfree environment, that is very well managed, seems to have helped elimante them.  i dont know what else it could have been.

  6. My Vet recommends a cream that slowly kills/burns them off. She said when removed surgically they tend to come back in the worst places.
