Sardara Singh pens a contract with Belgium Hockey League
Sardara Singh, the legendary player of the Indian hockey team, is going to take part in the Belgium Hockey League by the start of next year. Singh has recently been chosen in the International Hockey Federation (FIH) All Stars Men’s Team, making him the
sole Indian player in the squad.
The full-back performer of the Indian hockey team, who displayed outstanding game in the recently concluded Asian Games, inked an agreement with Lauven Club based in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Seasoned short-corner specialist, Sandeep Singh was also
approached by the Belgium Hockey League in this regard.
Brilliant defender Sardara while talking to the media said, “I have signed a contract with Lauvens Club and will play for the first time in Belgium Hockey League. I hope it will be a learning experience for me and will be handy before the Olympic qualifiers.”
Sardara further said that the Belgium Hockey League would be commenced from first week of the February, where he would stay for three months as per contract. The Indian player emphasized that they would have to work hard for 2012 London Olympics qualifiers,
and such opportunity would surely assist them to improvise on the level of game prior to the mega event.
Singh made his international debut back in 2006 as an attacking player and then shifted to a midfielder. He currently plays at full-back position in the India’s national hockey team. His recent inclusion in the FIH All Stars Men’s squad raised the morale
of Indian hockey players. The squad also includes seasoned players such as Teun de Nooijer of Holland and Jamie Dwyer of Australia.
Sardara maintained that it was his dream to play along with world’s best players like Jamie Dwyer and Nooijer. He was of the view that there would be lot of pressure on Indian hockey team in the qualifiers to the London Olympics. Despite some brilliant pieces
of play, Indian hockey team failed to acquire triumph in the 16th Asian Games, which could bring them a direct berth to the mega event.
Singh stated, “There will be immense pressure but our team is in good nick and we have to maintain that. We have performed well last year and we can continue with the rhythm. We will qualify for London Olympic 2012 for sure.”
The legendary performer replying to a query about ongoing coaching crises of the squad stated that he would prefer a duo of a foreign and local coach, adding that they had learned a lot from Spaniard Jose Brasa and the national coach, Harendra Singh, who
are no more with the team.
