A number of cricket analysts in the country feel that 21 teams in first-class cricket are way too much and such quantity of matches is not going to help Pakistan produce quality cricketers. On top of that, the domestic players get very minimal salaries and
they do not find any kind of financial freedom by playing only at the national level.
PCB has formed a task team to recommend some changes in the domestic cricket of Pakistan. The team is headed by former captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-Clark-c2591 is also a member of the team.
During his interview for Pakpassion, Sarfraz expressed that only the best players in the country should be playing first-class cricket as it is the highest form of domestic cricket in any country. Sarfraz strongly believes that by decreasing the quantity
of teams, the quality of surely going to be enhanced.
Sarfraz expressed, "I also think there are too many teams in the top tier of first class cricket. There should be less teams and this will mean that only the top players play in first class cricket. I'm sure that by reducing the number of teams the overall
standard will improve.”
The former fast bowler is of the opinion that Pakistan has been producing some ordinary cricketers since the last decade and that is only because of the weak structure of domestic cricket in the country and this is the reason why most of the players fail
to cement their place in the national team.
“I favour quality over quantity. There are too many average teams in first class cricket meaning that there are too many average cricketers being produced and finding their way to international cricket. Some of these players then play for Pakistan and are
exposed straight away", he added.
