http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-Nawaz-Malik-c88831 takes a jab at Hafeez and team management – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistan pacer Sarfraz Nawaz on Monday came down hard on skipper Hafeez and Pakistan team management for national team’s poor show in the recently concluded http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The 2009 World champions faced a semi-final exit in the latest edition of the T20 showdown, after a 16-run defeat at the hands of Jayawardene’s men. Pakistan dropped promising all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665 in the summit clash, and fell short by 16 runs in the end.
Though Tanvir delivered economical three overs at the start of Sri Lankan innings, helping Pakistan restrict the home side to 139 for 4, former cricketers and country’s media believes decision to play Tanvir ahead of hard-hitting Razzaq backfired, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 struggled to score runs in the low scoring semi-final.
Nawaz, 63, also questioned the exclusion of Razzaq from the squad in the knockout game, and believes Hafeez' personal grudge with the all-rounder may be the reason behind the decision
“http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Razzaq-c84421 is more than capable of destroying any opposition attack with his powerful and lusty hitting,” said the former pacer in an exclusive interview with The Nation. “Razzaq’s inclusion in the side can help Pakistan win that match easily. But the match was lost just because of the skipper’s selfishness and personnel grudges with Razzaq,” he added further.
Nawaz also questioned out-of-form all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482’s inclusion in the team despite his consistent poor form with both bat and ball throughout the tournament. The swashbuckling all-rounder, who is experiencing an extended lean patch, could score just 30 runs in five innings, including two noughts, while picking up just four wickets in six matches, at an average of 42.75. The former pacer said that Afridi’s poor performance in the global event showed that he was tired and should quit international cricket now.
Asked about Hafeez’ captaincy in the mega event, Nawaz said that he was the most dishonest captain in the history of Pakistan cricket, and asked him to relinquish the role.
“Hafeez has no sense how to lead a side sensibly as he just cares about himself and all his decisions speak volumes about his inefficiency,” said Nawaz, a veteran of 55 Tests and 45 ODIs.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should immediately appoint a committee to find out the exact reasons of team’s poor show and its ouster from the World Twenty20 semi-finals,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-Clark-c2591 concluded.
