Sascha Kindred claims Men’s MC 50m butterfly gold: Day five – British Gas Swimming Championships
Sascha Kindred of Leominster claimed gold medal of the Men’s Multi Class (MC) 50m butterfly final on fifth day of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre on Wednesday, March 7.
The 34-year-old Kindred lived up to the expectations of his supporters by proving his eligibility for the crown of single lap butterfly event with an effort of 32.66 seconds. He was chased by Matthew Walker of Marple, who remained 0.75 seconds behind him
and ended second with an effort of 33.41 seconds. Josef Craig of South Tyne snared bronze medal of the event as he posted a time of 34.51 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Women’s MC category, where Susannah Rodgers of Otter proved her mettle for the title of the event by tapping the finishing end in a time of 36.64 seconds. The gold medallist remained considerably ahead of her strongest challenger,
Elizabeth Johnson of Bath University, who clocked 45.36 seconds for silver medal. Jan Langton of Kelly Coll earned third position of the race as he submitted a time of 46.65 seconds.
In the meantime, the audience experienced fascinating efforts of Newburn’s Rafael Bagott, who pocketed gold medal of Men’s MC 100m butterfly. Bagott proved his eligibility for the title by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.40 seconds.
He was trailed by James Clegg of Tranent, who secured silver medal of the two-lap event with timing of 1 minute and 01.46 seconds. Clegg was followed by James Hollis, who reached the podium for bronze medal in a time of 1 minute and 00.92 seconds.
Afterwards, Eleni Papadopoulos of Co Manchester Aquatics occupied he title of Women’s MC 100m butterfly, by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 13.07 seconds. Swansea Perf’s Stephanie Millward was the second fastest swimmer of the event as she ended
her swim in a time of 1 minute and 11.96 seconds. Gemma Almond was bronze medallist of the event as she clocked 1 minute and 13.89 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events while the championship will end on March 10.
