Sashina Vignes Waran and Michelle Chan Ky to fight for a main-round spot in the Swiss Open GP Gold
Sashina Vignes Waran of France and Michelle Chan Ky of New Zealand won their opening matches in the qualifying round of women’s singles in the Swiss Open GP Gold 2011, at Basel, Switzerland today on 15th March. Sashina defeated Sabrina Jaquet
of Switzerland in three sets, whereas Michelle got rid of Lianne Tan of Belgium in three sets as well. Both winners will be fighting against each other in the evening today and the winner will enter in the main round of the draw.
Sashina started the game with unusual aggression and established a wonderful lead of 11-5 against the Local shuttler, who worked very hard to match the speed of the opponent but lost her control in the game. The French remained focused and finished the opening
set by a huge margin of 21-12, in just 14 minutes.
In the second set however, Sabrina delivered a stunning performance by playing a terrific game as she built an 11-4 lead in the opening part of the second game. Sashina failed to stop the aggressive run of the local opponent and lost the second game with
a huge difference of 8-21, in 12 minutes.
The third and final set of the match was very interesting as both ladies remained close and reached at 10-10. At the one-minute-break, the French was leading by 11-10. She stretched the gap by playing a better game and finished the set at 21-16, in 17 minutes.
The final score of the 43-minute match was, 21-12, 8-21 and 21-16.
In another qualifying round match, the New Zealand shuttler Michelle Chan Ky was trailing behind Belgian Lianne Tan, who was playing impressively in the opening set and remained in the dominating position throughout the game. She won the opening set by a
big difference of 21-11, in just 10 minutes. In the second set, the score progressed with equal pace and reached 15-15. Michelle played well in the end and levelled the match by winning the second set with a 21-17 margin, in 16 minutes.
In the final set, it was Michelle who came out on top in the entire set as she spared no opportunity for the local player to fight back in the match. She consumed only 10 minutes to win the third and final set by a stunning margin of 21-6. The final score
of this 39-minute battle was 12-21, 21-17 and 21-6.
