Sashina Vignes Waran beats Carissa Turner in pre quarter-finals of 2012 Bitburger Badminton Open
Women’s Singles expert Sashina Vignes Waran lived up to her billing and cast out Carissa Turner in second round of Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold on November 1, 2012.
She had to wait for 25 minutes to read the favourable result of 21-17 and 21-12 in a pre quarter-final match which was played at local badminton arena of Saarbrucken, Germany.
The French campaigner showed a consistent performance and sealed a splendid straight-set victory to setup a meeting with Carolina Marin in the quarter-final round of this GP Gold event.
In the opening game, Sashina played with great precision and bagged this crucial match point on merit.
She started the beating after 2-2 and established an early grip with 7-3 total. This initial advantage helped her to keep the opposing shuttler at the lower end in the next couple of rallies.
Though, Carissa made every effort to narrow the gap but she could not hit the mark before half time.
The female campaigner of Wales kept trailing behind her competitor all the way to mid-game break and finished the first half of the set with a huge deficit of seven points.
Later part of the game was also played in similar manner as Sashina did not lose focus and kept moving forward at a steady pace.
She gathered valuable points without any interruption and mounted pressure by placing a notable margin of 17-13.
The talented French shuttler capitalised this lead and finished the opening game with a winning figure of 21-17.
Next game was also dominated by Sashina as she employed unbeatable tactics and served notice of her supremacy.
This time she unleashed a flurry of power packed strokes and ruled the court in four uninterrupted rallies.
It was an uphill task for Carissa to match her challenger’s speed and she failed to move swiftly across the court. This sluggishness ultimately resulted in her straight-set defeat.
Sashina mounted pressure with 11-8 and then magnified the impact by registering 19-9 score in the final moments. She reserved her right to be in the quarter-finals by putting a convincing figure of 21-12.
However, she will have to put an extra effort to surpass the higher ranked opponents in final rounds.
