Sat Nav no cigarette lighter?

Question

Can I still get a sat nav for my car if my car doesn't have a cigarette lighter? How long does the battery last? Do they have a mains charger? x

Yes you can use a sat nav in a car without a cigarette lighter but you will have to do a good deal of researching before you buy one as they all have variable battery lives depending on usage. Some sat navs i've used lasted on average  about 4  - 5 hours +, others no more than 2 -3. The big brand names tend to last longer, i.e. Tom Tom, Garmin etc. Most come with an cigarette lighter charger (obviously!) and also a usb cable to charge from your computer. Some of them come with a mains charger as well. Unless you are travelling on a long route and dont have a clue where you are going you could always just switch the sat nav on only as when absolutely needed, say nearer you're final destination, that way the battery will hardly drain at all.

Right you can still buy a sat nav without having to use a cigarette lighter all you use instead is a home charger.. now battery life is variable depending on the model you buy on average its about 3 hours.. But obviously if you use constantly over time then battery life will decrease.

If your wondering what model to buy then id recommend to you a Garmin or Tom Tom..

Garmin is the most reliable..

Tom Tom has alot of software problems.. plus theres been a few occasions of battery life decreasing dramatically. and your more than likely going to be bringing it back

My Sat Nav has 2 hour battery. Enough for short trips but not for long trips.

How old is your car?  all modern cars come with cigarette lighters or a power take off point.  I have a Garmin 250 and it lasts about 4.5hrs from a mains charge. (if you have a radio in your car there usually a spare power wire behind it, its usually jusy hanging there not connected to anything)

I believe 99% of cars have a power outlet. You don't need a cigarette lighter, but a power source. It's a hole that looks like a cigarette lighter but just is for power. Get the navigation, but you might have to install a power outlet if you somehow don't have one already which would amaze me.
