  1. GPS is too expensive and the print on the map is too small, so neither. I just drive around until I see somethin that looks familiar.

  2. Both. Satnav for the journey, but look on a real map to check the major junctions so that the Satnav doesn't try to cut a corner by sending me along "Crack-pot Lane"

  3. Neither, like all men I never need any assistance with directions from anyone or anything and I am never lost.

  4. I use both.

Sat Nav. is OK providing you don't neglect common sense.

Too many people end up along cart tracks not because the sat nav. took them that way but, in my opinion, because they have no idea of distance, so that when the sat nav. says turn right (or left) in 400 yds, they turn at the first opening instead.

On the security point of view, I don't know of any cases of a car being broken into to steal a road atlas  LOL!

  5. In my experience, both.

I have been led up a couple of dead ends by my sat nav, but it has got me close to where I need to be.  A map can be very accurate, but you need to be able to read it, possibly on the move, which introduces an element of danger to proceedings.

Get a route plan off one of the reputable websites (theaa.co.uk, multimap.com) to get an idea of where you should be going, then program your satnav and take a map in case of problems.

  6. Map first  to check out the main route

    the plug in the GPS

  7. Sat nav, in todays increased petrol prices the sat nav often can lead you a shorter route, can lead you astray but ask the people lead astray how many times it got it right.

  8. Map book, Sat-Navs take you up farm tracks and are controlled by governments. Would you trust your navigation to a politician?

  9. Maps all the way.

  10. The first rule of driving is to know where you are going; the second is to know how to get there - before getting behind the wheel.

Unless one drives for a living, there aren't too many places that we go to on a regular basis that are off the beaten path. .So we drive the same routes because that is our comfort level - we're familiar with them. .If I have to go to a place I've never been to before, I check a map: on the computer - Google Earth or MSN Virtual Earth and/or on paper - AAA maps or Thomas Brothers. .Then I write down the route I want to take, including cross streets and reference points, even alternate routes - however much info I think I need. .I tend to rely more on the computer maps since they show the actual road. .After a brief study, I have a pretty good idea in my mind ahead of time of what to expect road-wise and there aren't any surprises. .Getting un-lost can be an expensive proposition with today's gas prices.

  11. sat nav BUT always have a map as a backup...

  12. Sat Nav

  13. I navigate very well using a map. Unfortunately as my husband will tell you, I often get my left and right muddled.

Still it can't be that bad, he hasn't traded me in for the Sat Nav yet!

  14. HELLO

    I USE A MAP BOOK

BUT THAT DOESN'T GET UPDATED LIKE A SAT NAV CAN

IF YOU DO A LOT OF DRIVING IN DIFFERING AREAS I WOULD CONSIDER A UP-DATABLE SAT NAV

NOWADAYS WITH HAVING TO LOOK AT A MAP IF BY MYSELF I WOULD PLUMP FOR SAT NAV AND LOOK AT PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NON AND UPGRADABLE ONES
