Question:

Satan and evil?

It's my understanding that Satan was an angel thrown out of heaven for the sin of pride--"It is better to rule in h**l than serve in heaven". But is all the other stuff about evil in the bible or is it just from literature and movies?

  1. What "all other stuff about evil?"  I mean, there is a large amount of stuff about evil in the Bible, but a lot isn't.  What specifically are you asking about?

And the line you quoted there isn't from the Bible, but from John Milton's Paradise Lost (written in the early 1800s, I think).  I'm fairly confident that the story of Lucifer (as he is named in Paradise Lost) being thrown out of heaven is never mentioned in the Bible... although it does talk a lot about Satan.  The "fallen angel" thing seems to come from Isaiah 14:12... and scholars seem to say that this was misinterpreted.

  2. Mostly from the bible - and then put into movies.  The bible lists things that are 'sins', and also talks a little about Satan's origins.  If you get a copy of the King James Version/Translation of the bible (I believe the most common or popular one)... it often has an 'index'.  You can look up 'satan' and it will tell you all the scripture verses about satan.

  3. it's all bible and idiots that believe in that old dusty tomb
