  1. I had Dish Network and was very happy with them but then moved and decided to try the bundle package from Qwest which included Direct TV. NOTHING but problems with them.  Didn't show up for two installations (finally got it a month after I originally signed up for it, since they reserve no open installation times for their goof ups so each time I had to schedule an install for 2 weeks out).  When I finally got the equipment they didn't set me up for the correct channels I ordered.  Then the DVR kept freezing and not recording the shows I set it too and if it did record it recorded blackness.  I complained and got a new one.  The new one did the same exact thing.  I finally told them I'm canceling my contract with them because they didn't live up to their end of the deal by providing me with working equipment.  Fought for over a month with the jerks.  They had sent my unpaid bill for canceling my contract with them to a collector. After serveral letters and many phone calls I finally called them one day to again argue with them and they said the issue had been resolved and it wouldn't affect my credit, but never had the courtesy to send me a letter to inform me of this.

Dish network was always very nice over the phone when I dealt with them and I was actually going to go back to them but they wouldn't install at my apartment because of some regulation they have to follow in regards to apartments. PLUS, you don't have to sign a contact with Dish.  Went with the local cable company though and will always stick with them because they are quick to come to your assitance and you can always stop by at their store and trade equipment if need be. A little bit more expensive then the other guys but WELL worth it to not have to deal with the head ache of having issues and contracts.

Sorry, I know it's a long saga but I HATE Direct TV and they put me through one heck of a turbulent month fighting with them.

  2. DIRECTV IS OKAY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE TRY AT&T.THEY HAVE BETTER RATES FOR LESS,BUT LESS HD CHANNELS.DIRECTV IS TOPS IN HD.

  3. I had Direct TV for 2 years. The only thing I did not like was the BILL, Too much for what Dish was offering. My bill is lower and I really like the DVD/DVR box they give you. I have four room service and it works great. Dish has a automatic update that interrupts your viewing at 3 AM every night. This can be a pain when your on the Internet.

  4. YES! I had Dish for a couple of years. Very hard to talk to someone if you have a problem. Also been put on hold for at least an hour. Got Direct about a year ago, and I am very happy.

  5. This is kind of a complicated question because a lot of it has to do with your personal preferences.

For example, as other people have pointed out, Dish -- by many accounts -- has the best DVR around. Better than TiVo in fact.

But Direct TV is tops for things like sports (they're the only ones with the NFL Sunday Ticket package and NASCAR Hotpass, for example).

Outside of that they're pretty similar. There are a few sites I'd suggest you take a look at to get a better idea. These will probably help you decide:

    Hope that helps!
