  1. Direct TV has is awsome. Alot of HD channels that are great for sports watching.

  2. Either can provide good quality programming if the antenna has an unobstructed view of the satellite.  Otherwise, a lot depends on your needs.  There are differences in channel groupings, equipment, and HD offerings.

My experience was with Directv, for about eight years.  No reception problems except about 5-10 minute periods during heavy storms.  If you get snow or ice where you live, consider how you will clean off the antenna.  I was lucky to be able to mount mine near ground level.

If you are thinking of dvr service, read equipment reviews on Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.  I replaced a very good but worn out unit made by Tivo with the Directv R15, thinking they would be similar.  What a dud.  Had I checked it out the R15 is rated about 1.5 out of 5 on those sites, and that's generous!  Maybe they offer another model that works better.  I understand Dish has a dvr that can send recorded programs to multiple tv's - I don't know much else about it.

Also, with either company be sure you understand their policies regarding equipment leases and service commitments.  Directv billed me $250 for breaking a 2 year commitment relating to the R15, even though I paid $100 upfront to lease it, installed it myself, returned it to them in perfect condition, and never signed a contract.  Researching my problem, I've read stories of people charged for early termination when the installer, after multiple visits, couldn't make the thing work!  So, don't rely on common sense, check into everything.

  3. I would say direct tv.  I haven't ever tried dish network but in the year that I have had direct tv haven't had any problems at all. no lost signals and the picture is always great

  4. 9000 Satellite TV Channels on PC or Laptop - TV for PC

You can try it. It's very good!

  5. From a programming perspective you can't beat DirectTV especially for HD and Sports.  They are the exclusive provider of NFL Ticket and actually have 4 channels devoted to The Masters in HD.  One for the regular broadcast, one for amen corner, one for 15th and 16th, and a mix.  I bring this up because DirectTV is always doing something interactive for sporting events.  During football you can enter your fantasy team and it updates your stats, March Madness tracks your bracket, etc.

They have 95 HD channels right now and just launched a new Sat that will give us up o 150 more by fall.
