Satellite TV: What is an LNB?

My directv keeps going out for no know reason, and i have read that it might be the LNB. What is a LNB? The technician cant get out here for a week, so i was wondering if it is something i can buy and replace myself, and how much it costs?

  1. The LNB is the eye on your dish, It is what sends the signal to the receivers. You can buy them but your better off letting technician replace it. Especially if you are under warranty or have the insurance on your system.


  2. L N B stands for low noise blocker, its easy to change, two screws and disconnect the cables. directv lnbs' are very reliable. it may be a bad cable. or something else. LNBs' are not cheap so if your service call is under warranty. id wait it out

  3. an lnb is the thing on the end of the dish that receives the signal..  you cant replace it.  just going to have to wait.  that is the good thing about sat though, with cable it could be a problem with the thousands of miles of cable before your house.  with sat, your problem should be fixed the day he gets there with no BS
