  1. Anyone can see your house if they walk by and turn their head. A person can also see your house if they are in a small two seater Cesna and look down. A Company helicopter that gives rides to individuals can fly over your house and people can look down. You think that these people are invading your privacy by being able to see your house????? Can they see you? Can they hear you? Can they hear your phone calls? If you close your blinds can they see inside? Sure if the government really want to hear and see everything your doing they can. This is usually for a criminal. Google Earth is a service and not an invasion. Oh my someone can see my house!!!! I feel so violated!!!! Contrary to another answer yes you can see people in some of the photos. Oh my another breach!!! You don' t ever see anyone walking down the street. Although I have never seen a person on here with distinguishable features that could ever be recognized. Go for Google Directions. Put in an address and there is usually an option for street view. This a a great tool the can be used in conjunction with GPS to help people locate a house or relative. Same as the other 100000 people that can drive by and see your house on a yearly basis.

  2. google earth is the best by far. i dont really see it as an invasion  of privacy tbh, you cant see any people on it.

  3. Don't know specifically if there is a better australian option. But in general I would use maps.google.com, or even better: Download the program "Google maps" as it has a bunch of functionality that you wont find on the web-page.

As for privacy: Well.. It isn't real time. Its just a static bunch of satellite images. If you got caught on a bad time, just bad luck.

If it was updated in real time, I WOULD find it intrusive that anyone was able to follow me around.

  4. Google Earth it's fun to find your house or see other places. I can understand where you might feel it invades privacy. My home is so surrounded by trees no one can actually see it on Google Earth.

  5. http://maps.google.com has Australia on it.

I think it's fun and I don't care if people see my house.

  6. I don't see it as being hyped.

And noone can see into your house. In fact, unless you are in some major urban center, no one can even see your house because they only have it mapped that close in a small percentage of areas.

But listen, I googled my apartment in Brooklyn, and there was our roof, and we were able to see the extensive water damage that the landlady had been hiding from the tenants for the last five years. We took her to court for endangerment and won.

So I  love the technology. Not so sure the landlady was happy!

  7. I think it's a good use of technology...

It's not being hyped all that much!

  8. Most of the people who think they are a target of the evil doers on the internet who want to look at their house are a bit up themselves. By sheer weight of numbers the chance of your place being looked at is minimal.

Besides, do you ask every person who drives down your street who may accidently see your house, like you could on a website, to not look?

Scaremongering of the innocent or ignorant has some overestimating their significance.
