i'd really like more to watch on tv, but i know nothing about satellite and its costs.... i have a few questions.

1. right now i have comcast cable, do i have to keep paying for it if i get satellite? (kind of a dumb question)

2. will i still have local channels if i got satellite?

3. i only have local channels in my basement, no cable. i want to put an hdtv and have satellite down there, but i was told i can't even put regular cable because if i ran a splitter the cable would be hella long and i don't know if i wanna pay a pro to come in and do it. would it be the same problems if i wanted satellite?

  1. 1) You will not have to pay for cable after you get satellite TV.

    2) Most areas can now get local channel access on satellite TV.  The only exception would be if you live in a very small TV market, in that case you would get either New York or Los Angeles channels.

    3)  Most satellite TV includes free installation so they should be able to run the cable to the basement.

  2. 1. You dont need to pay for Comcast if you get satellite, I recommend getting Dish Network - http://satellitetvguru.net/dealer-compar...

    2.  You will get local channels, in Fact Dish Network just added a ton of local channels in HD to their line up so you will probably get your local channels in HD.

    3. You can easily run a line down to your basement yourself (assume you just have to go through drywall etc) if you do the research there are a ton of tutorials online of how to run a line, I've personally run a few in my house and it just takes an hour or so.
