Sato Yuki tames Fung Mason in opening round of 2012 Li-Ning Singapore Youth International Series
Japan’s Sato Yuki played with great conviction and stamped Fung Mason in the opening round of Li-Ning Singapore Youth International Series on Monday, November 26, 2012.
This tie was a part of the Boy’s Singles Under-15 event and both youngsters showed maturity in their craft while piling up final figures of 21-17 and 21-14.
The Japanese campaigner laid the foundation of his dominance by clinching the opening match point and then served notice of his potential by sealing a straight-set victory.
Sato Yuki kick-started his campaign with a brisk attack and confined his rival in the rear court. He bagged valuable points at steady pace and put the native shuttler under huge pressure.
He did not show any mercy in the next couple of rallies and raised his total to an indomitable position of 11. After the mid-game break, Sato Yuki did not lose focus and strengthened his grip with couple of consecutive points.
Though, the Singaporean campaigner showed some spark in the final moments but it was not enough to avoid a woeful defeat.
In third quarter of the set, Fung Mason prevailed in few back-to-back rallies and narrowed the gap on the points table.
He was in strong position to finish this segment of the showdown in a favourable manner but then few unforced errors triggered the collapse.
Sato Yuki did not squander this counter-attack opportunity and reinstated his supremacy in the final stage.
He displayed superior finishing skills and bagged the opening match point with 21-17 score on the board.
The second set heated up with couple of gruelling rallies as both contenders made every effort to gain an early advantage.
They stood toe-to-toe in the establishing rallies and did not allow each other to make a significant difference.
However, the Japanese shuttler played flawless badminton and placed a decent figure of 11 just before the interval.
Sato Yuki capitalised this lead in later part of the game and widened the gap with some back-to-back productive rallies.
He registered a winning margin of 21-14 and qualified for the second round of this International Series. Now he will be up against Dwiantoro Aditya of Indonesia.
