Satomi Suzuki conquers Women’s 100m breaststroke heats: Day two - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Satomi Suzuki conquered the qualification rounds of Women’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, April 3.
Suzuki remained prominently ahead of her challengers in the double lap breaststroke event and tapped the finishing end to enter the final as strongest swimmer for gold medal.
With her invincible efforts, she enjoyed an advantage of one and a half body length over her closest competitor and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 06.97 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was trailed by Nanaka Tamura, who suffered a deficit of 1.52 seconds from her following swimmer and settled on the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 08.49 seconds.
Similarly, Miku Kanasashi snared third fastest spot of the event as she stayed just 0.02 seconds behind and ended her sprint in a time of 1 minute and 08.51 seconds. The third fastest finisher was trailed by Mina Matsushima, who was almost two strokes behind
and ended her sprint in a time of 1 minute and 08.73 seconds.
Matsushima remained only 0.04 seconds ahead of Rie Kanetou, who proved his eligibility for fifth position of the discipline by completing his race in a time of 1 minute and 08.77 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed forceful efforts of Ryosuke Irie, who dominated Men’s 100m backstroke preliminary rounds by ending his race in a time of 54.03 seconds.
Irie was followed by Yuuki Shirai, who stayed 0.63 seconds slower from him and concluded his swim in a time of 54.66 seconds to qualify into the next round.
Third fastest spot of the race was secured by Takashi Iyobe, who was just 0.01 seconds slower from his former finisher and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 54.67 seconds.
Junya Koga occupied fourth qualifying position of the discipline as he ended his sprint in a time of 54.75 seconds.
In addition, these finalists will race against each other in their respective semi-finals, where the top finishers will be awarded medals and accolades for their gruelling efforts after the session.
