Satomi Suzuki dominates Women’s 100m breast-stroke - 2011 Canet En Roussillon
Satomi Suzuki of Japan dominated the Women’s 100m breast-stroke to conquer the gold medal on day two of the 2011 Canet En Roussillon.
The Canet En Roussillon is a two-day international swimming meet and is the third stop of the 2011 Mare Nostrum Series, which gives an opportunity to elite swimmers to groom for the upcoming 2011 World Championships in July.
Suzuki presented an extraordinary swim in front of the arena, out-touching her closest competitor with a difference of 0.07 seconds to claim the gold medal. She posted an astonishing time of 1 minute and 08.30 seconds to overcome Australian swimmer, Samantha
Marshall’s effort of 1 minute and 08.37 seconds. Marshall edged out her closest competitor, Jennie Johansson, who touched the wall for bronze medal, with a timing of 1 minute and 08.53 seconds.
The event was an intriguing battle as the top four finishers posted a time of less than 1 minute and 09.00 seconds. Joline Hostman and Marina Garcia Urzainqui ended their swims in the fourth and fifth fastest spot, by producing a time of 1:08.87 and 1:09.13
minutes, respectively.
With the help of her quick dive, the Australian gained a slim lead from her fellow swimmers and completed her first lap in 32.14 seconds. Her timing was 0.11 seconds ahead of Japanese swimmer, Suzuki, who clocked an impressive time of 32.25 seconds. They
were followed by Johansson, who was the third fastest swimmer in the initial lap, after producing an effort of 32.56 seconds.
In the second lap, Suzuki shifted up the pace and strength of her powerful breast-stroke to gain a slight lead from Marshall in the first 25 metres of the swim. They both continued a head-to-head battle, where Suzuki settled on the podium for gold in a winning
time of 1:00.29 minutes.
The championship will conclude after the completion of the second day’s swimming events, whereas, the swimmers will compete with each other in the final stop of Mare Nostrum in Monaco, from June 11-12, 2011.
