Satomi Suzuki wins Women’s 100m breaststroke semi-finals: Day two - Tatsumi International Pool
Satomi Suzuki won the semi-finals of Women’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, April 3.
Suzuki continued her supremacy over her challengers by sustaining her fastest qualification spot of the event. Her immaculate efforts in the second round placed her in a lead of almost two strokes ahead of her following swimmer and she entered the round
as top contender for gold medal.
With his persistent efforts, Suzuki qualified into the playoff as fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 07.31 seconds.
Her effort remained 0.37 seconds ahead of Fumiko Kawanabe, who emerged on the finishing wall as second best swimmer by posting a time of 1 minute and 07.68 seconds.
She was followed by Mina Matsushima, who stayed 0.18 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 07.86 seconds for third position.
The fourth position of the discipline was secured by Kanako Watanabe, who stayed 0.31 seconds apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.17 seconds.
The fifth fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Maya Hamano, who stayed 0.04 seconds slower and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 08.21 seconds.
Following that, Ryosuke Irie impressed his supporters by occupying top position in the Men’s 100m backstroke semi-finals. Irie remained considerably ahead of his opponents and posted a time of 53.17 seconds.
He was followed by Yuuki Shirai, who stayed 1.20 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 54.37 seconds.
Shirai was followed by Junya Koga, who remained 0.01 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 54.38 seconds. Koga remained nearly 0.40 seconds ahead of Takashi Iyobe, who clocked an effort of 54.73 seconds.
Kazuki Watanabe remained 0.06 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 54.79 seconds for fifth position.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category whereas these qualifying swimmers will face each other in their respective playoffs, where the top three finishers will be awarded accolades.
