Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn believes Formula 1 will be highly supported in India – Formula 1 news
Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn says that India and Formula 1 will benefit from the latest Grand Prix which is going to be held at the Buddh International Circuit in New Delhi, India, on October 30, 2011.
She believes that India has earned the right to host a Grand Prix, and has also earned its place as a technical hub.
“This year's Formula One schedule comprises 19 races in 18 countries, and it's right and proper that India is now part of this exclusive group,” Kaltenborn said.
He went on to mention, “The decision to add India to the calendar reflects the country's global and economic standing. India also represents a very big market for Formula One and, as such, has huge potential for many companies, some of which are already involved in the sport.”
India is known for its cricket crazy fans, and some say that cricket has a religious like following in the country. However, Kaltenborn believes that she has noticed an increase in the interest of the people of India in Formula 1. She stated that she is sure the 2011 Indian Grand Prix will help getting popularity amongst the masses and will soon be just as popular as cricket.
She also added that she has noticed the excitement in the country has risen from the last few months of 2011. The Indian Grand Prix is getting more media coverage, as it is going to start in few days.
Force India team have been part of Formula 1 sport for some years now, and it recently was in the media for its big merger with Sahara India. The Indian fans will definitely be looking to support Force India on India soil for the first time.
Having an Indian team already in Formula 1 will also increase the following of the sport.
It will be interesting to see the turnout of the fans over the next race weekend in India.
