Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn says she is not worried about her driver line-up for 2013 – Formula 1
Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn has said that her team is very relaxed about their driver line-up for 2013.
She insisted that the focus of the team is at the moment is the current season. The team’s young driver Sergio Perez has been linked with Ferrari for the 2013 season but Kaltenborn feels that is nothing to worry about.
Perez has had a good 2012 season so far as the Mexican was able to have two podium finishes in the season. The fact that he is in Ferrari’s young driver program and Sauber runs on Ferrari engines, it is likely for the Mexican to be linked with the Red Scarlet
team.
Ferrari though have said that Perez does not have enough experience to be part of Ferrari at the moment, negating rumours building up surrounding the driver.
“We make our driver line-up for a whole season, so from that point of view there will be no changes,” she told the official Formula 1 website. “We are not worried. And we are in the middle of a season that hopefully will be a successful one for us - at least
all indications point in that direction - and our drivers have to focus solely on this season. Regarding the future, we are not under pressure and I am laid back about it.”
Kaltenborn defending her other drive Kamui Kobayashi who has not been able to show the performance he is capable of by saying that the Japanese born driver has been unlucky in the season.
She added that she is not sure if it is really the case that he has not been able to perform again Sergio but the results do not show the whole picture, he has been able to show good performances but has been struck by some misfortune.
Kobayashi has issues with his car on two occasions during the qualifying and the risky strategy that Perez went with in Malaysia worked at brought the young driver into limelight over Kobayashi.
It will be interesting to see how the team performs as the season progresses, and it will be important to note how Perez performs in the second half of the season as it might land him a race seat with a major team in 2013.
