Sauber aim strong qualifying performance in Monaco – Formula 1 news
Sauber head of track engineering, Tom McCullough has said that they are aiming to introduce some essential updates in their car to perform well in the qualifying of the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix.
The Swiss squad came up with some significant step-ups in their car in the Spanish GP, but unfortunately they failed to score any points. However, McCullough has asserted that they are not feeling upset over their results in the preceding race and are positively
looking forward to perform well in the season ahead. He also said that they are planning to introduce some important updates in their car to improve their qualifying pace so as to secure higher grid positions for the next race as overtaking is extremely difficult
at Circuit de Monaco.
“We have some further updated aero parts to add to the package we took to Barcelona,” McCullough said. “Coming off the back of our better race pace in Barcelona, our aim is to qualify stronger, as this is particularly important in Monaco where overtaking
is so difficult.”
In addition, Sauber driver, Nico Hulkenberg said that he is feeling quite confident about his performance in the approaching race. Besides, he said that the softer tyre compounds will hopefully give them an opportunity to score good points in Monte Carlo.
“In terms of performance, I'm quite positive,” Hulkenberg said. “We've seen that the softer tyre compounds suit us quite well, which gives me confidence we'll have a good weekend.”
Presently, he is standing at 14th place in the drivers’ championship with 5 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso and just a point behind his main rival, Adrian Sutil of Force India. On the other hand, his teammate, Esteban
Gutierrez has not been able to score even a single point in the season so far.
The Hinwil based squad are currently standing at 8th place in the constructors’ championship, ahead of Williams and behind their major opponent, Toro Rosso. They emerged as the most competent mid-field contender in the last year’s championship. Let’s see
whether they will be able to maintain their competency in this season too or not.
