Sauber aim to introduce major upgrades ahead of 2011 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s technical director, James Key has plans to introduce some major upgrades in their car ahead of the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix.
Key said, “We will bring a wide ranging aero package for the car, which includes a completely new front wing, new rear wings, new turning vanes and side pod deflectors, new brake ducts and modifications to the floor.”
The team’s performance during this season has not been very consistent with just 36 points to its credit so far. The team’s best performance of this season has been at the Monaco race when the Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi secured a 5th position
earning 12 points for the squad. The rest of the races have not brought any marked change to the team’s position.
With five races to go until the end of the ongoing 2011 season, the Hinwil-based team is focused on introducing upgrades that will help the team perform better and get the points that they need.
Key is very optimistic about the recent upgrades that have been installed and he is hopeful that they if everything goes as planned, it should give the team the boost they have been aiming at.
Key added, “This was always planned for Suzuka and, if it all works well, it should give us a reasonable step forward. Obviously we want to bounce back from some recent bad luck.”
For Kobayashi, the race at Suzuka holds sentimental values as well as he will be driving in his own country in front of his people. There should be a huge crowd present at the race to support this Japanese driver which will be a great confidence-booster
for him.
His Mexican teammate, Sergio Perez is also very excited about the race and feels that the team has fair chances of climbing up on the rankings after this race.
Perez has termed this race to be “one of the most special races of the season,” and believes that the high-speed Suzuka circuit will be very suitable for the upgraded Sauber car.
Let’s see how the team fares at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix scheduled for October 9, 2011 at the Suzuka racetrack.
