Sauber aim to take bigger steps to move forward – Formula 1 news
Sauber team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn has said that they need to take bigger steps in order to move forward to compete well with their rivals in the season ahead.
The Hinwil based squad performed amazingly well in the last season and emerged as the strongest midfield contender. However, they have faced immense difficulties in this season so far due to which they have not been able to secure competitive points with
consistency.
It will be important to note that the Swiss squad had been going through a really tough time, according to Kaltenborn, because they didn’t have the required funding and sponsors to carry on their development process as a result of which they couldn’t maintain
their position in the constructors’ championship. In addition, she also requested F1 to provide help to the smaller teams for the goodwill of the sport. However, the chief executive officer of F1, Bernie Ecclestone asserted that he cannot bail out Sauber as
he has to treat every team equally.
Nevertheless, Sauber have recently announced their partnership with three Russian companies which will surely take them out of their financial troubles and Kaltenborn is feeling quite confident for the season ahead. She claimed that they have got the potential
to fight with their opponents and they are positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching races.
“It is important to know that we are now in a position where we can fight with other cars, we can keep up with them and overtake them,” she told Autosport. “That is what we need to take forward - because that gives us the confidence that we have understood
the issues, and we have implemented small steps.”
“Of course the recent results were small but they are there, but now we want to implement bigger steps to move us in the right direction,” she said.
“We have to see how it finally works out, but definitely it is more in to a direction we know,” she added.
It will be exciting to see whether the Swiss team will be able to make the desired progress and how it performs in the season ahead.
