Sauber announce new partnership with Chelsea Football Club – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari have recently made an announcement regarding their new partnership with English Premier League side Chelsea FC.
The logo of Chelsea will be displayed on Sauber’s car C31 for the first time ever in the upcoming 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
Monisha Kaltenborn, the chief executive of Sauber expressed that they are feeling very much excited about this deal.
“A partnership like this between Formula One and Football has never existed before in this form, yet there are numerous commonalities and possible synergies,” said Kaltenborn.
In addition, she said that this partnership will prove out to be a good step forward for the sport. She also said that they are working on many issues and intend to support each other in future.
“In either case we are talking about team sport at the highest - and international - level. The Sauber F1 Team and Chelsea FC are dealing with many of the same sporting and commercial topics and we want to strengthen each other in these areas,” she said.
Besides, she congratulated Chelsea as they have made their way into the final of the Champions league while she said that they are aiming to make the best use of the opportunities that have been created with this partnership agreement.
“We are looking forward to exploiting these opportunities, and we congratulate Chelsea on making it to the final of the Champions League,” added Kaltenborn.
On the other hand, Ron Gourlay, the chief executive of Chelsea said that this partnership will help in bringing together the fans of two of the world’s biggest sports.
At present, Sauber are standing at 6th position in the constructors’ championship with 31 points ahead of Williams-Renault. Furthermore, their pair of drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi, is currently at the 9th and 12th places in the drivers’ standings.
Besides, it will be important to mention that the Mexican driver, Perez secured an impressive second podium finish in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, in rainy conditions.
Moreover, the Swiss team is trying its best to make the necessary preparations for the season ahead in order to fight for a competitive position in this year’s championship.
