Sauber cherish Perez’s performance and are not disappointed to lose out on the win – Formula 1
Sauber says it has no reason to feel disappointed over missing out on a potential win at the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Sergio Perez battled long and hard with Fernando Alonso to take the win in Malaysia but a late excursion meant that he lost the chance of doing so and finished the race placed second.
It has been quite an achievement for the Sauber driver and it was special performance for him and his team. It was evident that he wanted to go for the his maiden win, but a late excursion in the race meant that he was left 6 seconds behind Fernando Alonso
and could not manage to close the gap as there were only six laps left in the race.
Sauber CEO Monisha Kaltenborn said that it has been an incredible performance from Perez and the team has no reason to be disappointed over missing out on a win.
“I am happy with what we have achieved,” she explained. “It is a very big achievement for the team, and gives us the confidence and certainty that the way we are going means we are going upwards slowly and steadily.”
“I think in such a moment, you don't want to think about what you could have had or what you could have got. We are happy with what we have, and let's see what else will come,” he added.
She added, “It is a fantastic moment. We started off into the race weekend with a few issues, and the team worked extremely hard because we are still confident about our car.”
The impact of Perez’s performance has been so much that speculations of Ferrari looking to get the driver to join in have grown. Felipe Massa continues to disappoint and because Perez is one of the Ferrari’s Driver Academy member and so it will be an easy
adjustment for both Perez and Ferrari, but both have denied any such moves.
It remains to be seen how Perez fares in the remainder of the season, but the performance in Malaysia has definitely spiced up the season and opened a lot of permutations for the drivers’ championship.
