Sauber confirm Kamui Kobayashi, Sergio Perez as 2012 drivers – Formula 1 news
According to a recent announcement by Team Sauber, the team is expected to keep Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez for the 2012 Formula 1 season as both of the drivers are doing a spectacular job in the ongoing 2011 season.
Both Kobayashi and Perez are going to be a part of Sauber as race drivers for the 2012 Formula 1 season as well and it seems that these two drivers are definitely helping the team improve its performance and statistics.
Peter Sauber, the team’s principal stated that he was willing to keep both Kobayashi and Perez and that this was a very easy decision for him.
“We are very pleased with our drivers. Kamui has grown into his role extremely well this year. Though it is only his second full Formula One season, he is already taking on the responsibilities that naturally fall to the more experienced driver in the team.
We are delighted with him at both a sporting and a personal level,” he said.
They have secured 35 points altogether for the team in the constructors’ standings which puts them in 6th place despite the fact that the team was stripped off the points it earned during the first race of the season in Australia.
Despite this disappointment, the team came back and started scoring points very consistently. Kamui Kobayashi is currently in 11th place with 27 points while Perez is in 14th place and one has to admit, 8 points with a team like Sauber
in his debut season is not so bad after all.
“Sergio has achieved more than one could expect from a rookie. From the very first race he proved that he is capable of driving not only fast but consistently as well,” said the team principal.
Other than that, Sergio had to sit out of two races of the season after his crash during the Monaco Grand Prix as a result of which he has been unable to improve his statistics this year.
