Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi expecting a good result at British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that since Silverstone is a high-speed track, the team should be able to score a good result at the 2011 Formula 1 British Grand Prix scheduled to be held on July 10.
Kobayashi said their car is leaning more towards high-speed tracks in 2011 rather than the technical ones.
“Silverstone is a high speed track, so I expect us to be good at the British Grand Prix and in a position to fight for points. For me personally Silverstone is my favourite circuit of all, because I really love such high speed corners and also the crowd
is very enthusiastic there,” said Kobayashi.
The young driver scored the best result of his 2010 run at Silverstone after he finished in 6th place and picked up 8 points.
“Last year it was there where I achieved my best result of the season when I finished sixth in the race. The weather is always difficult to predict, but it doesn’t worry me after we proved in Canada we can adapt to any track conditions,” he added.
Sauber are currently performing pretty well as they are in 6th place in the constructors’ standings with 27 points which means they are ahead of Force India and Williams.
Kobayashi’s teammate Sergio Perez also stated that Silverstone is one of those tracks which he is good at and during his time in Formula 3, he has won the race two times on it.
The young Mexican went through some medical issues after his accident at the qualifying session of the Monaco Grand Prix but since he was cleared for the European Grand Prix, he has been quite eager to secure some good results for his team.
Other than that, the team’s technical director James Key stated that the team will have to be very careful with the hard tyres this weekend as they require a lot of warm up. However, he added that since the team is happy with the soft tyres, Sauber can score
a good result this weekend even though the circuit is quite heavy on the tyres.
