Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi hoping to improve his performance – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has recently stated that he needs to improve his ‘driving skills’ in order to satisfy his team.
The team is going pretty good up until now as they are in 6th place in the constructors’ standings. They are the best team after the top five teams of the sport which is a big achievement for them since the front runners are
way ahead in terms of pace.
Despite scoring some pretty good results for the team, Kobayashi claims that the team has a lot of potential and in order to give them even better results, he is hoping of improving his performance in the near future.
“Drivers always have to develop, never think they are perfect. I'm still learning, for sure [team principal] Peter [Sauber] isn't happy, they are waiting for leadership in the team. Last year there were a couple of mistakes and reliability problems,
but this year we try to score points regularly which we managed to do quite well,” he said.
Kobayashi has been one of the best new drivers in the sport and he has been performing great. The team is pretty much on level terms with Lotus Renault GP in terms of pace this year but since Renault secured some pretty good results in the beginning
of the season, they are ahead of Sauber in terms of points in the constructors’ standings.
Other than that, the young Sauber driver claims that the main thing he needs to improve is his qualifying ability and he is going to try a different approach for next year.
“I know that there aren't enough strong performances in qualifying. The thing is, when the car is good, I'm always okay. But if the car isn't comfortable then I'm not using the whole performance. This is where I have to improve,” said Kobayashi.
His teammate Sergio Perez is performing really well as well this year and it seems that the team is going to be in a very good shape in the 2012 Formula 1 season.
