Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi says 2011 Monza GP will be challenging for drivers – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi has said that the 2011 Italian Grand Prix will be challenging for the drivers on the long straights of the Monza racetrack.
Kobayashi also mentioned that they have to find the best setup for their C30 car for a successful race weekend in Italy, which is scheduled to be held on September 11, 2011 at the famous Monza racetrack.
The Japanese driver added that they did not manage their 2010 Formula 1 season’s race in a decent manner in Italy. He stated that he is confident of doing better this year at the Monza racetrack.
Kobayashi commented, “Last year we qualified 12th, which wasn't too bad, because we expected difficulties there. Last year I didn't manage to do the race because I had a technical problem, and I retired on my first lap after starting from the pitlane. But
this year I am quite confident of doing a good race.”
The Sauber driver is unable to score points for his team since the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix. In the last race of the 2011 Formula 1 season, Kobayashi could not finish his race in the top ten positions, as the team’s competitors were fast as compared to
them during the Belgium Grand Prix.
The team driver started his Spa race from the 12th place on the opening grid and finished at the same position in the final race classifications.
On the other hand, Sauber’s technical director James Key stated that he is hopeful of getting better results in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix.
Key mentioned, “Technically it's by far the lowest drag level circuit of the season. To get the drag down to levels which are optimum you have to reduce downforce, which is why we call it a low downforce track, although fundamentally it's a low drag track.”
After the Belgium race weekend, Sauber are ready to perform on a positive note at the Monza racetrack this weekend.
Let’s see how they manage their race in Italy following their disappointing Spa race.
