Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi says Silverstone circuit will suit the team – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s Formula 1 driver Kamui Kobayashi has stated that Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 season will suit the team with its fast turns and corners.
The Japanese driver stated that the fast corners of Silverstone always suit the Sauber car and he is looking forward to making it another point scoring finish in the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Kobayashi added that although the weather was a bit of a concern in Britain but after the team showed a spectacular performance in the Canadian Grand Prix, weather is no more a problem for them.
Kobayashi stated, “The weather is always difficult to predict, but it doesn't worry me after we proved in Canada we can adapt to any track conditions. For me personally Silverstone is my favourite circuit of all, because I really love such high speed corners
and also the crowd is very enthusiastic there.”
He further added, “Silverstone is a high speed track, so I expect us to be good at the British Grand Prix and in a position to fight for point. Last year it was there where I achieved my best result of the season when I finished sixth in the race.”
The Japanese driver has scored in six out of eight races of the 2011 season. In Valencia, he finished outside the points, 16th, and in the season opener in Australia, the Sauber duo was disqualified due a rear wing design problem.
The Japanese driver has almost single-handedly taken the Sauber team ahead of the midfield teams. His best scoring finish came in the Monaco Grand Prix when the Japanese driver finished fifth on the points table.
Kobayashi came as high as second in the rain-interrupted Canadian Grand Prix behind Sebastian Vettel but slipped down to seventh place at the chequered flag. The Japanese driver contributed to the Canadian spectacle when he made the higher ranked drivers
earn their place on the track.
The season continues in Silverstone on July 10, 2011 and it will be interesting to see how Sauber perform there.
