Sauber driver Kamui Kobayashi vowed he would score ahead of Turkish Grand Prix
Sauber’s, Kamui Kobayashi, has recently stated that he promised his team beforehand that he would score some points at the Turkish Grand Prix despite the fact that he had to start the race from 24th place.
“Before the race I had promised Peter (Sauber) to score points today. It is just one point now because we lost so much time due to a puncture, which was the result of touching Sébastien Buemi when I overtook him”, he said.
The Japanese driver gave an outstanding performance this past weekend and proved that he has the ability to drive alongside the top running drivers of the sport including Felipe Massa and Michael Schumacher after finishing in 10th place.
This means that he overtook 14 drivers single handily in a Sauber, which is quite clearly not as strong as McLaren, or, Red Bull Racing Team.
Other than that, making a promise like this and keeping it when you are not in a comfortable position is quite  impressive for a driver driving for a mid-running team of the sport. He claims that he could have scored even more points if he did not collide
with Sebastien Buemi, while overtaking him.
“I think I could have finished seventh and score more points. The car was great and also the team had a very good strategy for me, so I want to thank them for this. In the end I had to be a bit careful and save the tyres, because the last stint was quite
long with 20 laps, but it worked out well”, said the Sauber driver.
As a result of this performance, the team’s boss, Peter Sauber, also praised Kobayashi’s performance before stating that delivering such a performance using a three pit strategy was “amazing”.
He added that the strategy could have been better but Kamui made the best of his strategy throughout the day and passed quite competitive drivers. His teammate Sergio Perez also performed very well, as he also passed many competitive opponents throughout
the race.
Sauber believes that both of his drivers deserved better results as a result of their amazing performances.
