Sauber driver Sergio Perez cleared by FIA doctors for Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has been cleared by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) doctors to take part in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
Perez went through a terrifying accident during the qualifying session of the Monaco Grand Prix after which he was unable to take part in the following race. However, after being released from the hospital just two days following the incident, Perez needed
a clearance by the official doctors of the FIA which he received on Thursday.
Perez went through a concussion as a result of the incident but recovered quite quickly as he was discharged from the hospital after clearing all the medical tests. The doctors cleared him for taking part in the Canadian Grand Prix but in Formula 1, safety
comes first and according to the rules of the sport, a driver cannot take part in a race until or unless he is cleared by the official doctors of the FIA in case of an incident.
According to the Mexican driver, he was given the clearance by the FIA medical delegate Jean-Charles Piette. As a result, he is now going to be back to the track this Friday, June 10, 2011 for the first free practice of the Canadian Grand Prix.
“I just went to do the examination and all the tests again with the FIA, and everything was fine. We gave them our results from the doctors and everything is fine to race again this weekend,” Perez said.
Perez has been quite competitive and surprising at the same time as he is the only driver on the grid to pull off a one-pit strategy with the new Pirelli tyres which degrade quite quickly. He pulled off the stunt at the Australian Grand Prix and finished
amongst points. However, later he was disqualified due to some technical issues.
Nevertheless, Sergio Perez is currently in 15th place in the drivers’ championship with 2 points. He scored a 9th place finish at the Spanish Grand Prix which is his only points finish in the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season so far. The
young driver has been quite impressive and is hoping for a positive comeback at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
