Sauber driver Sergio Perez dreaming of driving for Ferrari one day – Formula 1 news
Sergio Perez recently tested for Ferrari for their Driver Academy Program and he has admitted that he is dreaming of driving the Scarlet car one day.
“I think there is room for me to do well where I am and that's my current target. Driving a Ferrari was a dream for me and it's also important for my career, learning with a team like this and experiencing a different approach to the work,” said Perez.
The young Mexican driver is driving for Sauber in the 2011 Formula 1 season. He is having a very promising debut season in the sport as he has scored a handful of points and is looking very promising.
Since Sauber are one of the mid-running teams of the sport, one cannot expect a race-winning performance from them. This is because of the fact that their cars are not as fast as the top-running teams’ cars.
However, these are the very teams who produce good drivers and Sauber has produced drivers like Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen to name a few.
Therefore, we cannot rate a driver’s performance based on a couple of his performances in a respective season. Drivers like Sergio Perez and Paul di Resta are performing really well despite the fact that they have an average car on the grid.
These sorts of chances are really beneficial for the young drivers and it seems that Perez is quite satisfied with how he performed for Ferrari during the test.
“This was a really special day for me. I want to thank Ferrari for giving me this chance to improve and learn, given the limited number of testing opportunities during the year,” he said.
Nevertheless, Ferrari have already announced that they will keep Felipe Massa for another year at least so Perez might have to wait a bit longer.
