Sauber driver Sergio Perez hopeful of a good result at 2011 Singapore Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has said that he believes the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix can turn out to be good for them.
Perez added that he is looking forward to a positive race weekend in Singapore, which will take place on September 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The Mexican discussed the 2011 Formula 1 season’s performance of his team and mentioned that at the moment, they need to get back their sixth position in the 2011 championship battle, which they had lost after the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The team driver is going to take part in the upcoming Singapore race weekend for the first time in his Formula 1 career. However, he stated that he is ready to race for the first time at the Marina Bay Street Circuit this weekend.
Talking to reporters, Perez commented, “I did some night racing in Qatar when I was in GP2 - it is a very special feeling if you live at night and it can also be fun. I will arrive from Zurich, which means I come from the European time zone and then for
the night race you actually just stick to that and don’t go onto local time.”
He went on to mention, “I only had a quick look around Singapore during a stop-over, so I can’t say much about it as that was only a few hours. This time I will make sure I go early enough to discover a bit more about it.”
The 21-year-old driver further added that he has not yet raced at the Marina Bay Street Circuit with an F1 car, but spent a lot of time in the simulator.
After experiencing the Singapore circuit in simulator, Perez said that he hopes they can have a positive race weekend at the Circuit.
Both the drivers of Sauber, Perez and Kamui Kobayashi were not able to complete the 2011 Italian Grand Prix. Due to having gearbox issue in their C30 cars, they had to retire from the race after competing 32 and 21 laps respectively.
Let’s see how both of them perform in Singapore this weekend following their disappointing Monza race.
