Sauber driver Sergio Perez hoping to win 2012 European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez is hoping to claim his first victory of the season in 2012 European Grand Prix which is to be held at Valencia Street Circuit on June 24.
Perez said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming race and he believes that they have got the potential to win. However, he said that he is expecting a difficult weekend in Spain.
“I think that definitely there is chance that we will win race this season,” Perez said. “We've already had a second and third place so I think next target has to be to win race. Hopefully we'll be able to make it. If we can get sorted on Friday and have
a good Saturday and good race then who knows, but I think it will be tough weekend for us.”
He added, “I think it will be difficult weekend for us in terms of this track asking a lot of the rear axle with braking and lateral combination, it's a tough circuit”.
Presently, he is standing at 9th position in the drivers’ championship with 37 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams and behind Jenson Button of McLaren.
In the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia, he performed quite convincingly and secured 8th place finish after setting off from 22nd grid position.
Later, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia, he secured an amazing second podium finish in rainy conditions after starting from 9th place in the grid.
However, in the next four grands prix, he could not score even a single point and was retired in the Spanish GP at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
Nevertheless, he made an inspiring come back in the Canadian GP at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal in which he secured a striking third podium finish after beginning from 15th grid position.
Over and above, he said that they have been trying their best to make the considerable developments and the essential preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the approaching races in order to make their position stronger in this year’s championship
fight.
