Sauber driver Sergio Perez is confident about upgrades for Spanish GP – Formula 1 news
Sauber-Ferrari driver Sergio Perez is feeling confident that the updates which they have made during the Mugello test will help him to score points in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
Perez secured an incredible second podium finish in the second race held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia and followed the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who won the race.
It will be important to mention that he has emerged as the first ever Mexican driver who stood on podium in the last 40 years. Moreover, it was the best ever result of the Swiss team.
In addition, he is presently standing at 9th place in the drivers’ championship with 22 points. Furthermore, he is 7 points ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India and just one point behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
Unfortunately, he has not been able to score even a single point in the last two races and could only secure 11th place finish while he qualified for 8th grid position in both of them.
Nevertheless, they have made some important upgrades in C31 during the three-day in-season test held at Mugello circuit, therefore, Perez is hoping for a better race in Barcelona.
“I think now we have a very different car [this weekend], a different package, so let's see how we perform in hot conditions here,” Perez said. “I'm confident and I think we can do a good job here.”
Nonetheless, he also said that they still have plenty of work to do in order to make the substantial developments and the necessary preparations for the season ahead so as to fight for a competitive finish in this year’s championship. He added that the Spanish
GP will provide good information about the standings of all the contenders.
“I think the car feels good, competitive so I'm really looking forward to see how it goes compared to everyone else and see how it improves on a good track, because I think Mugello was not representative for testing. I think Barcelona will be a good point
for everybody to know where everybody is,” he said.
