Sauber driver Sergio Perez looking forward to the European Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber’s Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez has said that he is very much fit to take part in the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Perez, who crashed heavily in the Monaco Grand Prix, added that he has some previous experience of the track when he took pole position in the GP2 race in 2010.
The Mexican stated, “Without doubt it is an advantage that I know this track well. In 2009 I was on the podium after both GP2 races and last year I had pole position.”
Further talking about his rehabilitation, he said, “I flew home from Montreal, and back in Mexico I spent the time preparing myself for the next race and trained together with our physiotherapist. I feel perfectly well and I'm very much looking forward to
racing in Valencia.”
The Mexican was injured rather severely in the qualifiers of the Monaco Grand Prix when he lost control of his C30 on his way out of the tunnel and crashed into the padding.
The Mexican was taken to hospital from where the word came that Perez suffered no major injuries and will be fine in a couple of weeks’ time.
However, Perez sustained some slight damage to his right thigh and some bruises. Despite of that, he took part in the Canadian Grand Prix free practice session. But after the first free practice session, Perez was not feeling hundred percent and was called
off by his team boss, Peter Sauber.
McLaren’s test driver Pedro de la Rosa drove the Sauber car in the Montreal Grand Prix in Perez’s place.
Perez has dropped down to 16th place in the drivers’ championship battle since he was unable to participate in the last two races.
Nevertheless, the Mexican did make his debut season a memorable one when in the very first race in Australia, he landed among points only before penalised by Formula 1 stewards due to a rear wing design violation.
Let’s see how the Mexican fares in the upcoming Valencia set to take place next weekend on June 26, 2011.
