Sauber driver Sergio Perez looking to score points for team in Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez has said that he is looking forward to score points in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, scheduled to be held on June 12, 2011 in Montreal.
Perez informed the media that he is perfectly fine to race in Montreal after recovering from the injuries that he sustained during the final qualifying round of the recently held Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
Perez driver suffered a high-speed accident in the closing minutes of the Monaco Q3. After that, he was immediately taken to the hospital, where he stayed for two nights under the doctors’ observation. After getting clearance, he left the hospital on May
30, 2011.
After recovering from minor injuries, the team driver admitted that his health condition is fine. In addition, he is hopeful that he will take part in the Canadian Grand Prix.
Recently, Sauber also confirmed that Perez will race in the Montreal GP, as they believe he is fit to race and will pick up some points for the team.
The Sauber driver discussed his Monaco Grand Prix crash. He said that no doubt it was a ‘big shunt’ for him, but he did not take it too seriously, as he knew it was a part of game.
The Mexican lost his consciousness in the crash, but he considers himself lucky as he did not pick up any major injury during that.
He added, “During the accident I was just thinking to be able to race the next day. Unfortunately it did not happen as it was a good opportunity.  I'm perfectly fine, just some pain-But now it is going away and I really recover quite quickly. I can't believe
it was only a few days ago but I am very motivated now.”
The 21-year-old driver discussed his violent accident and mentioned, “I was changing some stuff through the tunnel and I ran a bit wide to the wall. I think I ran onto the dirty side of the track, so when I braked I lost the rear end of the car and there
was nothing else I could do.”
Despite suffering an accident in the previous race weekend, he is aiming to score some points for the team in Canada.
Perez was going in the right direction before the crash. He took a good start in the Monaco race weekend, but due to the crash, he could not impress the team.
Sauber is looking forward to a successful race in Montreal, as they believe the team drivers will show improvements in their runs. Let’s see how they fare this weekend.
