Sauber driver Sergio Perez pleased to score points in 2011 Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Sauber driver Sergio Perez was pleased to score points for his team in the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix held on Sunday, October 9 at the Suzuka racetrack.
Perez said that after a disappointing qualifying round on Saturday October 8, at the Suzuka circuit, he is happy to score points for Sauber during the Grand Prix.
The Mexican talked to the media and added that the strategy with the Pirelli tyres worked out very well for him during the Japanese Grand Prix. In addition, he stated that his team did a very good job throughout the race weekend.
The youngest F1 driver commented, “Also the car's performance was good. I pushed very hard, and gave my maximum today. Physically it was very hard for me because I am suffering from flu, so I'm totally happy that I brought the car home in a position good
enough to score points.”
The 21-year-old driver did not have good start to the race, as he started from the 17th position on the grid. After a few laps, he improved on the grid in a very decent manner and after struggling with his C30 car, came at the eighth
position behind Ferrari’s Felipe Massa in the final race classifications.
On the other hand, Sauber team principal Peter Sauber termed Perez’s performance in the Japanese race weekend as brilliant.
Peter said, “Starting from 17th and finishing eighth says it all. He was aggressive and consistent at the same time. His result also proves that we made a clear step forward with our car, which is important for the upcoming races.”
The team principal further said that Perez’s results of the Suzuka race have proved that they still want their best possible ending in the 2011 championship battle.
After the Japanese Grand Prix, Perez is placed at the 15th place with 13 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
The 16th round of the 2011 Formula 1 season will take place on October 16 at the Korea International Circuit.
Let’s see how Perez performs in the upcoming Korean Grand Prix following his positive Japanese race weekend.
