Sauber driver Sergio Perez satisfied with day one results in Barcelona testing – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 Sauber driver Sergio Perez has expressed his pleasure after his good results on day one of the Barcelona testing session.
He further stated that the first day in final Barcelona was very busy for him, as he used the different features of his car.
With regards to his performance on day one, Perez finished in fourth spot and completed 90 laps, with a time of 1 minute and 24.117 seconds. The team was really happy by their driver’s outing in the session.
Regarding the Australian Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season that is scheduled for March 27, Perez stated, “I am really looking forward to seeing where I am in Melbourne, because testing is a good experience, but I love to race. So I am looking forward
to seeing where I am, and I am very confident that I will be quite competitive from my first outing.”
The team took part in the final Barcelona test with their new C30 car and carried on their work against the different features of the upgraded package. Perez is confident about an impressive performance of his car and expected more work from the engineers
to improve the car balance for the 2011 season.
On the other hand, the Mexican driver admitted after his decent performance that he still does not know where he is standing in the midfield. However, he is satisfied as he said ahead of the upcoming season that he can achieve his goals if he could be in
the top 10.
Perez has already spent a year racing against Kamui Kobayashi in GP2 series, so he has an idea of where he is compared to him in terms of pace.
He said, “He will be my target, to beat him as soon as possible. I'm pretty sure it will take me some time, because Kamui is a very fast guy with quite a lot of experience, and a few more as a test driver. Moreover, he knows exactly what he needs. So he
has a big advantage over me, but I am confident that I will get there.”
It will be interesting to see how Perez will race along with Kobayashi in the upcoming Formula 1 season that is expected to start on March 27, 2011 in Melbourne.
